I had a precious opportunity to meet these two best friends. Lola, a 14-year-old border collie/lab and Dora, a 2-year-old shih tzu. Lola's pawrent had her four days after they started dating, and Lola has been with them ever since. Dora joined the family two years ago.
Due to her golden year, Lola's mobility is limited. She can not walk for an extended time. Lola was recently released from a hospital and diagnosed with a seizure disorder. Her parents said to me that Lola started losing her hearing, so she might not be able to listen to cues or when we call her name. She likes to sniff around, maybe to get a sense of her surrounding and what is happening around her, while her eyes radiate calmness and contentment.
On the other hand, Dora is so full of life and always ready to play. She is very fond of Lola, continuously looks for Lola when Lola is not nearby, and jumps right into Lola as soon as she sees Lola. These two complete each other.
Watching Lola and Dora on a gorgeous day at Prospect Park was such a joy. I checked with her mom the next day, and she said Lola slept through the night after the session.
I wish Lola a comfortable, happy and enjoyable golden years and I know she will because she has her pawrents who love her and Dora who cherishes her.
Update: I received an email from Lola’s parents on 7/23 informing me that Lola passed gently and peacefully on 7/22. I met Lola briefly but she’ll stay in my heart forever. Cross the rainbow bridge, Lola.
